About the role

We are looking for a Northern Powerhouse (NPH) Agri-Tech Sector Development Specialist to provide advisory and specialist consultancy services to Agri-Tech businesses across The Northern Powerhouse Region that are looking to develop or expand their export activity. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Working alongside DIT Northern Powerhouse team to provide insights on the requirements of the sector and to develop clear understanding of the segmentation across the North (e.g. sub-sectors, company types, markets of interest, propensity to export).
  • To work with businesses, support organisations and DIT delivery partners across the North to develop, deploy and communicate a clear export support proposition for the sector, aligned to DIT export strategy.
  • To guide sector strategy across the region in consultation with DIT sector teams, producing a sector plan for the Agri-Tech sector for the Northern Powerhouse to a defined model.
  • To liaise with DIT overseas posts to identify and develop trade opportunities for sector businesses across the region.

About you

You will have experience of developing an export function or previously have worked with SMEs/MSBs in the field of exporting within the Agri-Tech sector. You will have demonstrable experience across one or more subsectors of the sector such as agricultural engineering and equipment, precision farming, animal and plant science, aquaculture, infrastructure, ICT and advisory services for the agricultural sector.

You will also;

  • have worked at a senior management level with experience operating and planning business development in a corporate environment - managing, influencing and liaising with a matrix of private and public sector stakeholders;
  • have demonstrable knowledge of the international business environment and exporting, ideally crafted from experience as an international trade practitioner or adviser;
  • have strategic client management and relationship building skills and the ability to form trusted business partnerships;
  • have excellent presentation skills with the gravitas and confidence to lead events, missions, seminars as appropriate to the sector plans;
  • be capable of working independently, but also a great team player with good interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with people at all levels;
  • be a proficient IT user with experience of using Word, Excel, Outlook and multiple CRM data entry systems and capable of managing your workload to meet the demands of the role.

This is a full-time peripatetic role on a fixed term contract until 31 March 2021 (with the potential to extend further) requiring travel around the Yorkshire and Humber area and with visits to our Barnsley office. 

  • The salary of up to £40,000 for the right candidate
