International Business Development Manager

About the role

In this role you will support the operation and implementation of the Sheffield City Region (SCR) International Trade strategy focusing on the core markets of India, China, USA and Europe. This role will increase the export activities of companies in the SCR by coordinating activities with specialist agencies, the Department for International Trade (DIT), Local Authority partners, companies and local agencies. You will also:

  • Develop delivery plans and investigate opportunities to develop and grow trade relationships with new international markets;
  • Identify and evaluate new markets and build on the existing SCR international plans and strategy to promote opportunities for businesses and academic institutions to enter and grow in these markets;
  • Assist businesses to identify international trade opportunities and support them with the implementation of their plans;
  • Liaise and collaborate with both the UK based DIT sector specialists and in market DIT post holders to promote the trade offer from the SCR to markets;
  • Working with DIT, develop market forums or partnerships with key stakeholders, companies and academia;
  • Provide regular briefings and reports and manage all processes, systems and ensure compliance;

About you

You will have experience and knowledge of working in the Asian markets including India, China and the Far East with a comprehensive understanding of the business climate, culture and practices. You’ll ideally be educated to degree level, preferably with relevant qualifications (e.g. Project Management), however practical experience is more important and a prerequisite. You will also have the following:

  • Experience of supporting programme design, development and delivery work within international markets in a commercial, customer focused environment;
  • Knowledge of economic development policy, delivery work and financial management, as well as local and national strategies and policies;
  • Knowledge of results tracking and business intelligence information tools, as well as public procurement requirement and understanding the challenges faced in the SCR economy;
  • Experience of relationship management with business leaders, executives and elected members as well as financial management;
  • Experience of performance reporting processes and presenting in a variety of formats to external stakeholders;
  • Multi-lingual ability would be an advantage.

This is a full-time, peripatetic role on a fixed term contract until 31 March 2021 (with the potential to extend further).

This role will be a secondment between EGS and the Sheffield City Region Trade and Investment Team, so you will need to work flexibly in accordance with policies and procedures to meet the operational needs of the SCR Trade and Inward Investment Team. You must be able to undertake travel, both international and national in connection with the post including multiple nights away from home.

  • The salary of £38,000 - £41,000 per annum for the right candidate
  • Car allowance of £3840 per annum (pro rata for part time)
