A survey conducted by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) in September 2007, entitled “The value of Management Qualifications”, found that a clear majority of employers agreed that productivity gains, staff attraction rates and professional reputation are improved by all types of management qualifications, with the MBA and Diploma scoring particularly highly.
The same survey also revealed that managers are significantly under-qualified compared to other professional occupations: 41 per cent of managers hold below a Level 2 qualification and just 38.5 per cent of managers and senior officials are qualified at level 4 and above, compared to 80.9 percent of those in other professional occupations.
CMI Assessor and Verifier Awards
A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) is a certificate of competence, recognition that the performance of a job-holder meets nationally set standards of best-practice. It is the job of an Assessor to judge whether the performance of a candidate meets the national standards. Exemplas offers support and accreditation to individuals wishing to become Assessors by gaining the following awards:
- Level 3 Award in Assessing Candidates Using a Range of Methods (A1)
- Level 3 Award in Assessing Candidate’s Performance Through Observation (A2)
Once the performance of a candidate has been assessed by an Assessor, the evidence file is reviewed by an Internal Verifier. Exemplas offers support and accreditation to Assessors wishing to gain the Internal Verifiers Award:
- Level 4 Conducting Internal Quality Assurance (V1)
CMI NVQs in Management and Business Start-up
NVQs are designed to recognise a candidate's competence in the workplace. They provide a statement to employers of skill, competence and knowledge in a particular sector. NVQs are assessed in the workplace through observation of performance, evaluation of evidence and questioning. Management and business development NVQs demonstrate that you have achieved a certain level of skill and competence in people and/or business management. Exemplas offers an assessment service for the following levels:

- Level 5 NVQ in Management
- Level 4 Registered Manager Award (for care sector)

CMI Certificate and Diploma Programmes
Certificate and Diploma programmes are offered as an alternative to NVQs for candidates preferring to undertake learning. Qualifications are gained by candidates attending all course modules (usually 8) and being assessed on the knowledge they have gained by one-to-one assessments and/or completion of assignments.
