Informal Learning to Credit and Qualifications

Informal learning is about learning in different ways and includes: learning from events; learning for fun; learning with a purpose; and learning through experience.

All learning is valuable.  Taking part in informal learning helps you to build your expertise and gives you the opportunity to convert to formal learning - providing a potential for career enhancement or even a career change.

Opportunities at the University of Hertfordshire

The University of Hertfordshire has various routes on offer to those who want to progress their learning to receive credit and achieve qualifications.  These include Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL), a large number of short courses as well as specific programmes.

What is APEL?

APEL (Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning) provides the opportunity to gain a qualification through demonstrating and providing evidence of learning and skills that you use every day in your workplace, having the evidence assessed against academic credit and then completing short courses (which can be delivered in company or as part-time study) to top up the credit and receive a recognised qualification.
