Managing Diversity in Schools
Investors in Diversity (IiD) is a national standard designed to encourage organisations to become more inclusive and create an environment where individuals know that they can make a positive contribution and in doing so unlock better performance.
IiD is proven to deliver the following benefits:
- Motivated and enabled staff who feel respected and valued
- Higher levels of innovation and creativity leading to greater job satisfaction
- Employees will gain new inclusive skills and operate more professionally
- Enhanced career development and job prospects Improved performance and self awareness at both an individual and team level
- A better and more inclusive experience for the pupil
How do we achieve the IiD Standard?
Together with an accredited and trained practitioner, you work through an action plan that is developed as a result of an initial 360 degree equality and diversity performance assessment applied to staff, governors, pupils and parents. This assessment of your organisational performance is used as the baseline on which you can develop your action plan to identify gaps, weaknesses and, most importantly, the strengths within your current culture and operating practices. The IiD process encourages a shared approach to this responsibility promoting the use of a ‘cross departmental’ steering group and complete buy in from your senior management. Our practioners will support you in preparing for assessment and this will only take place once the steering group are agreed that all the indicators and evidence have been met.
Embracing diversity results in a wider range of experience, ideas and creativity whilst establishing an environment for all employees to work to their full potential and unlocking their talent. In some circumstances the standard can support you in meeting a number of OFSTED requirements relating to equality and diversity. The National Centre for Diversity is working with accreditation bodies to assess the Standard against evidence requirements in order to minimise duplication and to add value to the inspection process.
