Aims/objectives

The aim of the project is to test out the tools and methodologies required for the establishment of a European Record of Achievement.

This reflects the context in which many European workers find themselves, namely in short term, transitory jobs, in which they receive little training, and from which they take very little towards building a longer term career - either as a reference or an authorised statement confirming the skills that they have demonstrated.


This project builds on work previously undertaken under the TEC-TONIQ1 project, which developed a framework for interviewing temporary workers and identifying & confirming their skills and competencies.


TECTONIQ2 is differentiated from TEC-TONIQ1, firstly by the fact that a wider range of partner countries – and therefore delivery structures and economic conditions – are involved, and secondly because the project is tailored towards the needs of temporary workers under the age of 30.


Methodology

The project involves the establishment of a series of local working groups – one per partner country – to (a) assess the barriers/issues related to the introduction of a European Record of Achievement in that country and (b) conduct a local pilot project, to test some element of the proposed Record of Achievement in the partner country.


In the UK, the pilot project has consisted of interviews with young temporary workers to assess the suitability of the framework for recognising competencies established under TECTONIQ1. Some 30 young temporary workers in the leisure, care and hotel sectors have so far taken part.
