What is Licensing?
To license or grant license is to give permission. A license is the document demonstrating that permission has been given to a licensee. A License may be granted by a party the licensor to another party the licensee as an element of an agreement between those parties.
A license therefore, is the permission to do something that could otherwise be restrained. It is generally a legally framed commercial activity, offering several different options to companies to contribute to profitability:
- An alternative to in-house manufacture and sell
- An alternative to in-house research and development (or a share)
- An optimisation of resources for SME
What are your next steps?
These are just some of the considerations – the next step is to find out more about licensing by attending one of the Business Start Up show or exhibitions. These are held each year throughout the UK and bring together various support organisations, banks, consultants and solicitors. Introductory seminars are held during the exhibitions and licensing seminars are also run throughout the year by the CREATE partnership.
How can we help you?
‘Equal access to enterprise’ is at the core of CREATE – a partnership of national business support organisations whose aim is to encourage people to consider entering into self-employment through a structured business format such as franchising, licensing or a direct selling. While CREATE’s services and support are available to anyone, the partnership specialises in helping disabled people, young people and other target groups that might otherwise find it particularly daunting to enter into business.
